My Constant Prayer
“God please never prosper me above my capacity to maintain my love for You.” I have recognized that there is a weakness in our lives as we live in the world but are to not live like the world. So I continually ask God to never bless me beyond my capacity to maintain my love for Jesus Christ.
I have seen so many people who have been blessed beyond the capacity of maintaining that deep devotion for God. Their love begins to wane as the love of the world, and the things of the world begins to occupy their lives. May we have a love for God that surpasses everything else.
Philippians 4:11-13 says, “Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content: I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Oh, what a tremendous lesson we need to learn. Because the state that we are in might not be the most pleasant state to be in. Yet Paul was in prison when he wrote this, chained twenty-four hours a day to a different Roman guard, as they would make their changes. And yet, he was content. “For I have learned whatever state I am in to be content.”
It doesn’t matter to me; I can live with it, I can live without it. I have learned to be content with it. I have learned to be content without it. Whatever state God sees to put me, I am content, because my life is in God’s hands; He is in control of those things that surround me.
And there is the secret: I can abound, I can be poor, I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.
