“And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper.” 1 Kings 19:12
Many say that they want God to respond to them in a loud voice, a billboard message, or some other dramatic way. In 1 Kings 19 we read that after the great victory on Mount Carmel, the prophet Elijah fled for his life in despair to Mount Horeb.
In verses 11-12, the Lord instructed Elijah to, “‘Go out and stand on the mount before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper.”
It was in the still, small voice that God spoke. I encourage you not to get distracted in the busyness of life from the need to equip yourself to recognize the voice of God however He chooses to speak.
